How Barefoot Time Improves Your Health  -The Electricity Connection 

Your body is an bio-electric organism that runs on energy generated through the flow of electrons, tiny units of matter that move around elements - the smallest units of material here on Earth.  Electrons are used to create the energy currency of your body.  So extra free electrons will help your body make energy.  The Earth’s Surface is actually electron rich so when you are in contact with it - bare feet or thin layer of conductive natural material like leather - electrons will flow in the direction they are needed and your body will connect like a circuit to the Earth. You should therefore notice increased energy from barefoot time, or time ‘getting grounded’.

In addition inflammation and pain can decrease from barefoot time (you don’t have to walk, simply sitting works) or grounding time.  Chronic inflammation is a major source of disease.  When you move about life we generate free radicals, molecules that are missing electrons.  This is normal and healthy people neutralize them with free electrons from the antioxidants our bodies make and we eat in foods.  Free radicals are also an important part of your immune system - the body generates free radicals in order to neutralize pathogens like bacteria and fungus and to repair damaged tissues in the body.  The free radicals literally break things open to get rid of infections.  BUT when there is chronic inflammation, chronic infections, or an inability to neutralize free radicals you have a repair deficit - and disease begins.  

As noted the Earth’s Surface is electron rich, making it a source of free electrons. Allowing this flow to occur by going barefoot you will then accumulate this naturally abundant anti-oxidant.  Electrons will flow to where they are needed decreasing inflammation by neutralizing free radicals as they move.  You should experience at least some pain reduction when inflammation goes down.  

How long should you do it for? 

Short Answer - as much as possible!  Or for as long as needed for you to feel your best.  You also have to do all the other good things we know about for health - good food, healthy relationships, sunshine, good sleep, keeping levels of stress reasonable etc.   But being in contact with the Earth and spending lots of time outside is a crucial aspect of health.
